Roles and Responsibilities

What are the roles and responsibilities of the School Council?

To express both their own views and those of other children.
To communicate their feelings to adults.
To attend regular meetings.
To give up some of their personal time.
To help make POSITIVE changes.

The School Council consists of 20 elected members representing Years 2-6; one boy and girl from each class. Councillors are supported by Mr Harvey and Mrs Ziane to turn their ideas into ACTIONS. School Councillors enjoy working within our school and want to make a difference and have their voices heard.

We aim to keep you up to date with all the exciting changes and developments that we have been discussing in our regular meetings as well as how we are planning to make sure that changes HAPPEN in our school!

Current School Council Projects

Building on last year’s impact, the School Council is stepping forward with even bigger ambitions this year. We are entering the LME technology competition, where pupils will design innovative ideas that use technology to improve health and well-being. Alongside this, the council is leading a whole-school focus on promoting healthy food choices, helping children understand how good nutrition supports learning, energy, and well-being.

The School Council is also continuing its strong commitment to the wider community by contributing to our local food bank at St Thomas' Church, ensuring families in need receive essential food and toiletries. Through listening to pupil voice, working with staff and external partners, and taking meaningful action, the council is developing confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while making a positive difference both in school and beyond.

Reducing Food insecurity in our local community

The School Council’s aim was to reduce food insecurity within the local community. To support this, they organised a bake sale to raise money. The council then contacted St Thomas’ Church to find out which food items and essential toiletries were most needed by families in the area. Using the funds raised, the children visited Lidl to purchase these items and personally delivered them to the food bank, ensuring the donations arrived just in time for Christmas.

This experience helped pupils understand the importance of supporting their community and showed how collective action can make a real difference to families in need.

Congratulations to our Hello Health Team!

We’re proud to announce that our incredible Hello Health Team has won the national TCS GoIT competition! They impressed the judges with their innovative app designed to encourage children to live healthier lifestyles.

As part of their well-deserved victory, the team received exciting prizes and a special trip to TCS’s offices, where they had the opportunity to meet with industry experts and further explore their ideas.

A huge well done to the team for their creativity, dedication, and inspiring vision for a healthier future!
