    What Is Reading Plus?

Reading Plus is an online reading programme that helps children develop their reading fluency, comprehension and confidence.

Children read a range of engaging texts matched to their reading ability and answer questions to demonstrate their understanding. As they progress, the programme adapts to provide an appropriate level of challenge.

Reading Plus helps children develop the skills they need to read longer texts accurately, efficiently and with understanding.

How Do We Use Reading Plus at Becontree?

At Becontree, Reading Plus is one of the programmes we use to provide additional reading support for children in Years 5 and 6.

It is particularly useful for children who can read connected text but need further support to develop their reading fluency, stamina or comprehension.

Children complete regular Reading Plus sessions in school, working through texts and activities matched to their individual reading needs.

We encourage children to aim for at least 80% comprehension when answering questions about the texts they have read. This helps them focus on reading carefully and understanding what they read, rather than simply completing activities quickly.

Teachers monitor children's progress and use the information provided by Reading Plus to identify areas for development and plan additional support where needed.

Reading Plus works alongside the reading teaching children receive in school, providing further opportunities to develop their confidence and independence as readers.
