Lexia Core5 is an online reading programme that helps children develop the skills they need to become confident, independent readers.
The programme adapts to each child's responses, providing personalised activities and practice at an appropriate level. Children work through a range of engaging tasks that help them strengthen different aspects of reading.
Lexia develops six key areas:
At Becontree, Lexia is one of the programmes we use to provide additional reading support for children who would benefit from targeted practice.
It is particularly useful for children who are not yet able to access reading comprehension activities at their year-group level because they need further support with decoding, reading accuracy or other foundational reading skills.
Children work through activities matched to their individual reading needs. As they progress, the programme adjusts the level of challenge and identifies areas where they may need further support.
Children complete regular Lexia sessions in school, with the frequency and length of sessions adapted to their needs. Some children receive additional time to help them make progress.
Teachers monitor children's progress and use the information provided by Lexia to identify gaps, celebrate achievements and plan additional teaching where needed.
Lexia works alongside the reading teaching children receive in school. It provides further opportunities to practise and strengthen important reading skills.
Watch the short video below to find out more about how Lexia Core5 works and how it supports children's reading development.
Children who have been given access to Lexia can also use the programme at home to continue practising their reading skills.
If your child has difficulty logging in, please speak to their class teacher.
