Author visit
We had the author Chitra Soundar visit us in Year 1. We listened to her in assembly where she told us about what made her first start writing and how she uses different ideas to start writing her stories. She also showed us some of the books she had written. Later on we had a workshop with Chitra in our classroom. She retold one of the stories she had written as a book called Pattan's Pumpkin. We listened to her carefully and joined in with some actions, chants and songs in the retelling of the story. The story was about how an enormous pumpkin grew and Pattan turned it into a boat to help save him, his family and the animals from a flood. After we looked at different pictures of pumpkins and we drew our own pumpkin with us travelling in them as a boat. It was very exciting having an author visit us.
