Audiobooks

Audiobooks are brilliant for readers of all ages!

Audiobooks help with pacing, proper intonation and correct pronunciation whilst surrounding children in stories. They are fantastic for reluctant readers too because they avoid the barrier of a difficult text.

While Audible and Tales2Go are free to download, you may have to pay a subscription to access many of the books. Not to worry though as audiobooks can be enjoyed without costing too much! Here are some sites and apps where you can download or listen to free audio books:

  1. Libraries are a fantastic resource with free audiobooks on CD or cassette but did you know you can get a wide range of free audiobooks to download through the Libby, the Overdrive app? All you need is a library card!
  2. If you have a smart speaker or voice assistant such as Alexa or Google Home, you can just try asking it for a bedtime story!  Head to Harper Collins Children's books on StoryCastle to learn more about how you can do this.  Or access The Magic Door, which is an Alexa-powered interactive adventure game with original stories. You can tell Alexa what choices to make as you explore a magical land with various regions, including a forest, sea, garden and castle. You will collect hidden items, solve riddles, and help magical creatures. Just say the words: ”Alexa, open the magic door."
  3. StoryNory offers free audio downloads of brilliantly recorded classic fairy tales, world fairy tales and traditional fables
  4. Lit 2 Go offers hundreds of free audio books and many of them have free PDFs to download and print so that children can read along.
