For the Travel Ambassadors' summer travel project they chose a walking challenge to promote active travel to take place during our annual Walk to School Week. They called this challenge The Great Space Walk and it was linked to the eight planets in the solar system. To take part, the children needed to walk around the perimeter of the Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 playground eight times during lunchtime. Each time this was done a Travel Ambassador would stamp a planet on their Great Space Walk record sheet. Once the record sheet was completed then it was placed into The Great Space Walk box which automatically entered everyone into a prize draw. After the event, 20 children’s space record sheets will be randomly pulled out to take part in a special activity.
Anam, Sara, Olaf and Angel were involved with making resources, launching and promoting the walking challenge in assembly to the whole school, monitoring and stamping participants record sheets at lunchtime everyday during Walk to School Week. They did a fantastic job. The Great Space Walk was very successful as we had lots of children take part. We will be announcing the 20 winners next half term to take part in a 30-minute sports activity with Mrs Doogan and The Travel Ambassadors.
