The Book Fair Takeover team are very excited to inform you that the Book Fair is on next week. It will be open to classes in the afternoon and parents and carers after school until 3:30pm.
We hope to see parents and carers after school helping us continue to promote a love of reading.
Due to a distribution error, not all classes received their invitation leaflet. We have included a image of the leaflet here so that you can see what is on offer. Children will receive a physical copy as soon as they arrive.

Amna spoke to MPs about her role as a carer and how the Young Carers' charity has helped to support her. Amna said it was a great day made better by the donations from MPs who attended the event.
We have some new editions to the school! Our ducklings started hatching in the small hours of this morning and are currently drying off and turning into fluffy bundles!
You may have seen some alarming stories recently in the news and on social media, regarding the children's online safety involving children’s videos on YouTube.
While it is important to be aware of specific issues, it should also be understood that, sadly, the Internet is full of inappropriate material for children.
We take e-safety very seriously at Becontree Primary School and children are taught about keeping themselves safe online in every year group. This message is reinforced throughout the year. We also have effective filtering set up to block certain content.
However, much of the time that children spend online is at home, not at school, and we understand how difficult it can be to monitor your children’s online activity at home in order to keep them safe.
These are the key pieces of advice/ rules to help keep children safe online at home:
Most importantly, keep the conversation open with your children. Talk to them about what they are doing online, celebrate the exciting stuff (there is lots of exciting stuff out there) and remind them of the importance of keeping private information to themselves and not taking risks.
You can find more advice and guidance on our e-safety page.
National Young Carers Awareness Day was on Thursday 31st January and Becontree Primary School marked the event by holding a special assembly led by its school Ambassadors for Barking and Dagenham, Rebecca Tansley (Parent) and Amna Gulzar (Pupil). The staff and children wore yellow to mark the day and to raise money for the Young Carers charity.
A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who helps look another family member who may be physically, emotionally or mentally unwell. The work is often time consuming and tiring and very often young carers’ own needs are forgotten. However, to support them, the charity offers them the chance to be free from their caring responsibilities through activities, clubs, outings, holidays and one to one support. Amna (who is a Young Carer herself) spoke about the vital work Young Carers do to provide support for her and her family.
The assembly was very successful in raising awareness amongst the pupils, with some children coming forward to identify themselves as a young carer. The parents of these children have since been referred to the charity for further advice and support.
11 children from year 6 represented Becontree at a mass dance event at Barking Town Hall Square on the 7th November 2018. They were lucky to perform a dance routine alongside some other schools from our borough in front of the Mayor and Leader of the Council for Barking and Dagenham. The dance was to commemorate the Great War centenary for Remembrance Day.
