We were privileged to have a visit from Beryl Footman, ex pupil of Becontree who attended the school in the 1930s on Thursday 18th November. Four ambassadors from Year 6 did a wonderful job of welcoming Beryl back to her old school and accompanying on her visit, sharing their own stories of their time at Becontree.
Beryl is an inspiration to the children as following her time at Becontree, she went on to study maths at university, became a maths teacher and then headteacher of a large girls' school in the north of England. She gave an entertaining and inspirational talk to the children in Year 6, encouraging them to be the best they can be. Beryl has written a book for her great, great niece to read when she is older. We were honoured to be presented with a copy.
