  • Read for my School

    Wed 21 Jan 2015

On the 19th January 2015, an exciting project was kick started by Mrs Stock in the KS2 Monday assembly. The project involves reading lots and lots of books for the opportunity to win prizes, not only for the school, but also for the individual children.

Read for my School is a national campaign aimed at Years 3 to 6. At Becontree, we recognise the importance of reading and look for many opportunities to celebrate it so we, of course, decided this was a perfect opportunity. Children will be able to read many exciting fiction and non-fiction books via the internet. Each student has been given their own individual log in to use -not only in school but at home too. Their task is to read as many books as they can from now until March when the project ends (just in time for World Book Day)!

To keep the spirit of competition alive at Becontree, we have decided to run our own in-school competition between girls and boys. A league table will be on display and kept up-to-date throughout the rest of the project. On World Book Day, a special prize will be won by the most prolific readers in each year group too! So, you know what to do... KEEP READING!

  • SATs meeting

    Wed 21 Jan 2015 Year 6 teachers

Becontree hosted the annual SATs meeting at 5pm this evening. It was an opportunity for the parents of Year 6 to learn about the important statutory tests that occur every May for Year 6 children across the country.

Those parents, who attended, were able to pick up the revision pack, made up especially for this meeting, and the CGP revision guides . As discussed, the powerpoint containing the details about the tests themselves and the advice on how best to support your child or children is now on the school website. You will find it by selecting the 'About' tab and it can be found under 'Key information'.

If you were unable to attend, you will be able to see the same information on here as was given at the meeting. The revision packs will be sent home with your child or children; however you will need to pay the £5 deposit for the revision guides before they will be passed onto you. The £5 deposit is only refunded if the books are returned in a good condition and unmarked. If you wish for your child to write inside the guides then you need not return them and the £5 will become non-refundable.

Your support is much appreciated by both the school and the children.

  • New School Newspaper!

Wed 22 Oct 2014 Miss Gaughran

Becontree Newspaper club is publishing their first issue of the new newspaper for the school this week.

Becontree Times has been created by students from Year 5 and 6, who have written articles and interviews on some of the latest events to happen around school. This issue has been put together in only two meetings so a phenomenal amount of hard work has gone into producing this very first edition.

It will be going on sale from Wednesday break time for Becontree students to buy for the introductory price of 20p.  We will also have issues of the newspaper to sell before school on the last two days (Thursday and Friday) of the term.

There will be further (and bigger) editions of the newspaper which will be published at the end of every half-term from now on.

  • LBBD's Biggest Tidy Up Ever!

Tue 21 Oct 2014 Miss Gaughran

On Tuesday 21st October, two special visitors will be coming in to work with 30 children from Years 3 to 6 on a borough-wide project focusing on litter. There will be a special assembly followed by a litter pick on the school grounds.

This project has been set up to raise awareness of looking after the community we live in and to work towards making our community a more pleasant and animal-friendly place to be.

Only a few schools have been invited to take part so it is very exciting that Becontree Primary has been given this opportunity to do their bit.

Hopefully, the families of Becontree will also do their part by tackling litter in their gardens and outside their homes. We can all work together to make our community a much nicer place to be!

  • Adopt a potato plant for the Summer

Wed 16 Jul 2014 Miss Gaughran

Our class potato plants need tender loving care over the holidays while the school is closed for the summer.

We are calling on parents/ carers of the children to adopt a potato plant for the summer to be returned in the first week back at school in September.

With every potato plant adopted, care instructions will be given to the adopting family.

The potato plants will be available at the school fete for adoption and collection.  You will be able to speak to Miss Gaughran if you are interested in helping the school in this way.
