This week is a special one in year 6. It is the annual Trewern and Activity week. Twenty-two students, along with Miss Gaughran and Mr Hack, are heading off to the border of Wales for an action-packed adventure. The remaining students will be spending the week creating works of art of the under the sea variety after their trip to the London Aquarium.
Keep an eye on the year 6 gallery for photos of this fantastic week, which will be added as soon as possible.
Barking and Dagenham have organised half term activities for FREE as long as you have a splash card. These activities can be found through the link below.
Today a letter was sent home to announce the launch of an exciting whole school project on 'Celebrating Diversity'.
At Becontree, we know the importance of recognising those who make up the school community. We feel this project will do so on a much grander scale. The idea of this project is for the children in every class, from Nursery to year 6, to create a piece of art that will be hung around the school for most of the year.
To create the art, we are asking that the children bring in culturally significant items such as photographs, postcards, writing, patterns or an old season ticket for their favourite football team. On the reverse of the letter, you will see an example in black and white of what your children might produce. Below is the colour version.
Thank-you again for all your support towards making another very successful Fiver challenge at Becontree. Year 6 were very happy with the result and their recorded profit stands at approximately £138.
Photos of the event have been added to the gallery.
Already, year 6 have decided to donate the money to Free the Children, an international charity. There is a link in the same Fiver challenge section if you are interested in exploring what the charity is hoping to achieve.
As part of the maths and PSHE curriculum, year 6 have been working away diligently on the Fiver Challenge, where they have been given some money to spend on creating a profitable business. They are very excited about running their businesses on Thursday 25th June 2015 in the Sunshine Hall.
All children from years 1 to 5 will be invited to attend this special event in class groups during Thursday afternoon where they will have the opportunity to purchase the products on sale. The prices vary from 20p for ice pops to 60p for a mocktail.
It is an exciting event with all items on offer for less than a pound. The children will be selling items such as: scratch art, the best cup-cakes around, glitter tattoos, games, chocolate strawberries and much more!
Last year was very successful thanks to everyone’s support. The children made a profit of approximately £275. This year we hope to do as well and afterwards the children will be selecting a charity to whom they wish to donate their profit. We will keep you informed as to what happens on the website and already there are some examples of their work to see in the gallery with more to follow.
On Thursday 12th March 2015 we are having an art exhibition for Nursery to Year 3 in the Sunshine Hall. The children have produced some lovely artwork which will be framed and organised into an exhibition. Each class will get the opportunity to view the exhibition during the day and parents are invited from 2:30pm-4:30pm to view and buy their child's work if they wish. (They could make lovely Mother's Day gifts) The artwork will be £6.50 including the frame.
We hope you enjoy it.
